Acne

Acne is a common, distressing condition that can affect many ages. Acne is caused by hormonal blockage of oil glands and subsequent growth of bacteria in stagnant oil.

Acne is more common in some families. In general, diet or cleanliness are not causes, however a low G.I (low glycaemic diet) is helpful.

Treatments include microdermabrasion, prescription creams, oral antibiotics and hormonal therapy as well as an oral Vitamin A drug known as Isotretinoin (Roaccutane/Oratane).

In Australia, only dermatologists are registered to prescribe Isotretinoin.
